Welcome to SeanMcKelvie.com. I am a professional Webmaster based in Columbus, Indiana. Here you will find an overview of my work, my web development philosophy, and my skills.

What is a "Webmaster"?

This is an often asked question. I have been going by the title of Webmaster for several years now. Wikipedia describes a webmaster as "a person responsible for maintaining a website". Wikipedia goes on to describe duties as "...ensuring that the web servers, hardware and software are operating accurately, designing the website, generating and revising web pages, replying to user comments, and examining traffic through the site". A Webmaster is sometimes referred to as a Web Architect, Web Developer, Web Designer, Web Consultant, Site Author, or Website Administrator.

A Webmaster is a generalist who wears a lot of hats. A good Webmaster will think both creatively and analytically. In my work have drawn on skills found in a variety of disciplines including programming, marketing, management, writing, finance, and the creative arts. When choosing a Webmaster, education and experience are equally important. You certainly want someone who knows proper grammer and posesses the higher level thinking skills required for the increasingly complex Internet.

Why hire a Webmaster?

It is no secret that the Internet is one of the single-most important innovations of modern times. Businesses who don't have a website or use Internet technology will fall behind. The same goes for those businesses who don't keep their website updated. Most people know this, yet it is often overlooked or under-prioritized. The solution is to hire a Webmaster who will not only build or update your website but will also understand your business. There is no "one size fits all" approach to web development. I will take the time to understand and extrapolate your needs into real solutions.

There are many "nuts and bolts" behind building a website. A typical business owner does not have the need to understand all the code and technology behind a website. That is the job of a Webmaster. With that being said...the technology is not and end in and of itself, but a means to an end. I find no need to overly complicate a technology solution and pride myself in keeping it "simple but effective".

The bottom line is this: If you don't have time to think about your website then you need someone who will do it for you. A Webmaster will think, plan, and execute your online strategy.
