About This "Simple But Effective Website"

Whenever possible, I choose to keep my website solutions simple but effective. This means using technology and design principles that provide the shortest path to a goal. In a word: Efficiency.

Hosting

A discussion about websites should always begin with hosting. Put simply, the website host is the computer and networking hardware that serves up a website to visitors. Website hosting providers come in many shapes and sizes.

I have chosen to host my website at Hostgator. The reason is that nearly every major requirement is covered by one low price. This includes server-side scripting, database functionality, shopping cart, security, blogging, statistics, e-mail tools, and more. Design

In keeping with my philosophy, I have chosen to use a pre-made HTML template for this website called "Keep it simple". In giving due credit I will point out that "Keep it simple" was created by Reality Software under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. I can use it in any way I want provided that I keep the link to the author intact.

I chose this template because it is easy to work with. That saves me time and money. Plus the code is very clean which has the benefit of working across all major web browsers and being optimized for Google and other search engines. You may get the impression that this site is somewhat spartan. Often a person hired to design a site will focus primarily on flashy design without much substance. I do believe in good "wow-factor" design. But for this site flash is not as important as the content. There is no "one size fits all" approach to web development. I would never compromise function and quality for the purpose of selling a customer on a flashy site. My websites work! Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization has become one of most important considerations of website development for business owners. It is estimated that over 70% of the search engine traffic comes from Google. Being ranked highly on Google requires effective planning and there are many misconceptions. This website uses SEO/keyword friendly URLs which are a big help in search engine rankings. You may also have noticed the keywords presented throughout the site. Additionally, the sparing use of images where text does a better job will help boost Google rankings for certain keywords.
